Water in oil, could the block be ok?

Here is what I know: I purchased this boat (1996 Marada with a 4.3 liter) without knowing any history on it.I was told by the marina I got it from that the "motor is bad". I put a new battery in it,rolled the motor over by hand a small amount, put the ear muffs on and tried to start it.The motor made about 1/2 revolution and stopped.I pulled the plugs and turned it over,it shot milkshake out of a few cylinders,so I just pulled the motor.I suspect freeze damage because one of the freeze plugs is 1/2 out,but none of the others. When I drained the oil, about 1-2 gallons of water(looked like straight water) came out, then about the normal amount of oil followed. What are the odds that the block ISN'T cracked, and how will I know for sure.I know the boat was running last year due to the stickers from the dock and Ohio sticker was renewed. I know the motor has to come apart to know for sure and it will in the next few days, but what do you guys speculate I am going to find, and what am I looking for besides the obvious cracks etc??

Forgot to mention, the only 2 plugs that were removed for winter storage were the 2 lower brass block plugs and the plastic manifold plugs,so there was 4 total plugs removed from the motor.

Might be Head gasket,, its hard to tell, time to take it apart. Did ya drain the power steering cooler??

Well,
If you want to know before you take it apart, put the soft plugs back in and pressure test the block before you pull the intake manifold. (you can pull the exhaust manifolds though)

You'll hear a hiss where it's leaking.

V-6/8 engines frequently crack in the cyl water jackets under the intake manifold. right near the lifters. They also break on the outside of the block.

If you had a lot of water in the oil it probably came from a cracked block.

If the block is not cracked it came in thru a cracked/broken exhaust manifold but if it had good rings and pistons it's unlikely very much water entered that way.

It could be a head/head gasket(s) ... the pressure check will identify that too.

The pressure test will tell you if anything's cracked.

If the water was sitting on top of pistons for very long the engine is toast anyway.

Either way you'll be dissembling the engine...

Right on the money with that call,it is cracked just above the lifters almost all the way across then down into one lifter.:):D
