my boat is a 1987 3.0 with an omc cobra drive. i found water in the oil. i pulled the head, had it magnafluxed, & had the exhaust manifold & elbow pressure tested. all checked out ok. i put a new marine head gasket in & torqued to specs. it ran fine off the hose, but when i launched it i found water in the oil again. i changed the head gasket again because i thought i screwed it up. i ran the engine off the hose again & it is running great with no water in the oil. i don't think the block is cracked as i winerized it & added antifreeze to the block. by the way this problem started last spring. it's layed up now for the winter so i guess i got plenty of time to figure out what i'm going to do with it. p.s i only ran it at the lake for about 10 min. talk about a short season! any advice anyone? what a great forum!

Re: water in oil

Are you putting sealer around the head bolts,<br />check service manual. I seem to remember that some of the headbolts screwed into the water jacket.

Re: water in oil

i did seal the head bolts after changing the head gasket the 2nd time. there was at least a gallon of water mixed in with the oil after i launched the boat. i'm wondering if i should just go ahead & put a new manifold & riser in. i'm not getting any water mixed in when running off the hose. thanks for responding.
