water in pontoons

Hi, I notice some pontoons have drain plugs on the rear lower end of the pontoons. I have water moving around in there. Can i buy two flange plugs and install them, or will I cause a problem with the construction of the pontoon. The plug and flange I am talking of is about 1 1/2 in. in dia. and has three screw holes. I need a 1 in. hole which the back end of the flange will insert into and then install the three screws. You then install the drain plug. Can this be done? Thanks for your help.

I would check with a local welding shops and see if they had the equipment to weld aluminum. Just have them weld in a bung on each toon to thread a plug in. It sounds like you need to have your toons pressure checked to see how water is getting in them. There are threads on this site describing how to do that but you do need a bung in the toons to do this. You may have a cracked weld letting water in.

First step is to determine how the water got in and fix that. I second going to a welding shop and having them weld in a bung, it's a easy task for them and shouldn't cost too much.

I have to agree with the others first thing I would want to know how the water is getting in and address that before it gets worse. Also for installing the drains welding is your best bet. If you do it yourself as you described make sure to use a high quality sealant. Apply it to the whole area before pitting the flange on and than put some more on the screws before installing them to ensure you don't make 3 more leaks.
