I have a 1990 16 foot rinker built that i put my 1974 105 Chrysler on. The built in fuel tank had gas in it when i bought the boat so i siphoned it out using the fuel line. Then i put a fresh 3 gallons in and later another 6 gallons. Now im working on getting my motor back in good working order but its not wanting to stay running long and it runs rough. Today i noticed what looked to be water dripping from the carb. How can a for sure drain my tank to where its completely dry and empty?
Siphoning seems to not get all the liquid out.

Do you have a feul/water seperator? They work great, since gas floats on water, it passes thur the seperator the water falls into a collection canister which can be changed out or drained when full.

Someplace on the boat should be a hole for the sending unit.
Remove it and siphon all the gas out and then make sure there is no water or gas left in the tank.Flash light.
Don't use a vacum or anything electrical.
I saw what was left of a guys boat after he tried to vacum the rest of the gas out.BOOM!!!!
Worked at a dealership,The top mechanic at the time had the job of replacing the tank.Sprung a leak.
He drained it and had 95% out.
He was using a handheld electric saw and BOOMMMMM! Burns over 85% of his body.
Just be real careful.
If you can't get to the sending unit,do the best you can with a hose.
Then alcohol you use in a stove.Camper supply places???
You can add that to absorb the rest of the water.
The dri-gas works just not as good.
Rubbing alcohol actually has some water in it.
Good luck.
Someone suggested a filter with a setelment bowl.Good idea.
Then after it's all gone.Remove any filters one more time as they are made of cheap steel and will rust and polute the fuel system.
At wally world.Filter section,G2 or G3 filter works great on small rust particles that form in the steel filters.J

Do u think once i get all i can get out with a hose i could drop a clean rag in the tank with a piece of rope or wire attached to absorb the water/gas?

Re: Water in the gas!

What makes you think it is water dripping from the carb and not fuel?

It sounds more like a carb float problem to me than a water in your fuel problem.

Re: Water in the gas!

I tried starting my engine with fuel in a separate tank to see if it made a difference and it didnt but now i know water in my tank was not an issue. I am looking into getting a fuel/water separator for the future.

Re: Water in the gas!

The water has to be all out before you install a water/sep filter.
If not it's just gonna start to rust and send crap to the carb.
Additives are needed for Ethanol.I hate it but they are needed.
For the rest of your problems,do a compression/spark test. Then start another thread with your results.J
