Water in trim oil.. how to find the source?

Patient is a volvo 501b 1993.

The trim oil has water in it. The drive does trim up and down.

I have no visible leaks, but after a bit of trim use, the tank will overflow as water infiltrates the system.

Question: How do a trace where the water is sneaking in?

I don't see any fluid leaking out, just water getting in. I've checked the hose connections and they are all tight.

Thanks for any ideas!

I also have a Volvo with an SP drive. Mine has twin lift cylinders on it, so I will tell you how I would troubleshoot mine thinking that yours is the same also. I would remove both hoses from the pump, block one end off with a fitting, then pressurize it with air, maybe 30 psi, and while it is pressurized, go and check for leaks. You can repeat the process with the other line. If that does not work, then you can increase the pressure.

Give that a try and post how it works.

Have a great day,

Rob.

I like the air idea... I'll have to figure out the fittings, but that makes lots of sense to me.
Thanks!!
