Hi! I'm getting my Glastron ready for the season. I pulled the drive today (i know, i should have done this in the fall) and there was water in the u-joint bellow. The u-joints are still freely moving, but are rusted and will be replaced. The gimbal bearing is free moving as well. there is a small amount of rust when looking at it -- see picture below. should i replace the gimbal bearing as well or can it be cleaned up? any thoughts?

Failed to mention that I have a 2002 Glastron 175-SX. Volvo Penta 3.0GSM-C with a SX drive.

Yes replace it, either do it now or during the 4th of July weekend if murphy runs true to form.

To me they don't look all that bad.. but it would depend on your cash flow. If you can afford it, do it. Why not? I found a fully assembled drive shaft with brand new u-joints all assembled for under $150 online. If you are tight on money, just do the gimbal and bellows. Shop around for parts, as you can spend anywhere from $30 to $120 on just the bearing alone.

IMHO.

I would sure replace those ujoints.
I would also replace the seal going into the drive. When that yoke gets rusty, it cuts the seal like sand paper. You may even have to replace the yoke if it's bad enough.

so it appears that i have the "old style" u-joints. I've read the thread pertaining to the cross referenced u-joints. (should have done this PRIOR to ordering parts). i found replacements at the local autozone and napa. any concerns i should have if i use something besides the vp or sierra brands?
