'84 1.6l OMC Sea Drive

I noticed water intake screen had broken aways in several sections, and actually found a piece in the exhuast water jacket (didn't know what it was at the time)!

Anyway, found only vague references to screen replacement in manual (OMC).

The best I can gather it looks like at a minimum the drive shaft needs to be removed from lower unit  .

Please tell me this isn't so.........

Re: Water Intake Screen Replacement

It isn't so. The screen is next to the shaft but not around it and in its own space. Remove the pump and look down the cavity. You may have to break up the remaining pieces to get it all out. The new one will slide down in and "snap" into place. Install your new (complete) water pump kit (hint, hint!!) and youre good to go.

Feel better?

Re: Water Intake Screen Replacement

Thanks for the info, I do indeed feel better, it would have been really depressing to learn that it was true!!!!

I also do plan on installing a complete water pump kit. Actually new screens and water pump kits for my twins, amongst other things.

I'm sure you'll here more from me, as dig into getting things ready this year!!!

Thanks again

Rob K.
