Water Intrusion

I have a 1996 Larson Cabrio with Volvo Penta 5.0 FI and SX Drives. When boat is in water or under forward power the bilges stay dry. When placing each motor in reverse, one at at time, they both leak somewhere around the Gimbal Housing. The boat has sat shrink wrapped and on land since its last winterizing Dec 2003. This has been a fresh water boat all of its life in West Virginia. Any Ideas? Thanks

Maybe your u joint bellows(and exhaust bellows) need replacing?

IF its coming thru the gimbal area its probably torn bellows. bellows have a limited life and your boat is appraoching ten years old. if your drives havent been off or the bellows have never been replaced you should address it. was the boat stored with the drive up or down?
