water jacket gasket

Hi Im currently attempting to restore my old 1968 33hp Johnson shes already in good shape howevers i did notice my headgasket was in pretty bad shape so apon replacing it discovered the last person to do so had removed the waterjacket gasket and just siliconed it shut im just wondering if anyone has the part number as well if they may have a good picture of what it may look like my motors serial number is RXE-16M.

why is it once i put the proper waterjacket gasket on the motor it begarn to run completely different idle and everything were way better? what exactly does that gasket control?

Did you replace the head gasket at the same time? Maybe the head gasket was leaking and causing the idle problems.

It could have been the head gasket replacement that made it run better.

Yes i did replace the head gasket as well i sorta figured that could have been what it was as well however Im still wondering what the waterjacket gasket does it seems as tho the motor is spitting water at a much better rate now as well as stated even running even better is that all it controlls is just water flow?
