Re: water leak at pump 150 outboard
Hi newberry.....

Not sure why you connected a hose to the lower unit with it being off the engine but, the little hole is for drainage and acts somewhat as a pressure relief. Some water coming up around the driveshaft would not be surprising with a hose attached. Hose has a lot more pressure to it than the water pump impeller would. Between the impeller housing and impeller cup is an oring that helps prevent water from discharging up along the drive shaft. Other seal points are, two seals under the impeller plate, two prop shaft seals, shift rod oring and gasket under the shift rod cover, and a large oring on the prop shaft bearing carrier.. If you want to find your leak, rig a bicycle pump to either the drain or vent plug and put about 10 to 15bls pressure in the lower unit and dunk it in a garbage can full of water. Should show up right away. If you don't have a service manual, I strongly suggest you get one. Iboats have the generics. Most folks prefer OEM manual speciffically for their engines. Manual for your engine are still available. Hope we have helped.
