water leak between lower and upper unit

i have a water leak between the lower and upper unit. is this ok and what can i do to fix it. the motor was serviced and they didn't do anything. i only notice it when flushing the motor and i turn it off - thanks

Its just the water that is coming down from the engine, on its way down through the exhaust shaft and down through the prop, theres supposed to be a plastic (or metal if forget) insert with a big rubber seal that is supposed to keep the water from escaping through that small gap on its way down. They crack dry rot people forget to put it back in these things happen.

The only possible thing you could have to worry about, and this is an ultra slim chance, that the hot exhaust water could be coming in contact with the water pump housing, which sits right behind this insert and seal.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you aren't having any cooling problems.

thanks for the info

i don't think i have a heating problem.

the oil alarm goes off for some reason a 5 minutes or so after i'm on the plane and when i back it off it goes away and then i can run for asz long as i like without a problem.

not sure if its related?

When you are using muffs, water will come out of funny places because of the pressure on the hose.

You don't sound very confident when you say you don't think you have a overheating problem. You also say you have an alarm going off. Are you sure it is an oil alarm? Next time you have it out and the alarm goes off, remove the motor cover and put your hand on top of engine block. If it too hot to keep it there, your motor is overheating. That could be caused by the water pump, thermostat or a blockage somewhere along the way. Send your horsepower and year of your motor and others can give you more detailed advice. It is not a good idea to run your motor when the alarms go off until you figure out what is causing it.
