I just fogged the motor (Evinrude 70 HP 70773s or 707735) today 11-27-05, a friend lent a hand because I didnt know how to do it. While the engine was running in a barrel filled with water, he pointed out to me the water was coming out of the area where the lower unit is attached to the body. There was water coming out from the two holes on the motor. He said it should be like a stream of water not a spray. Will this also cause water to get into the lower unit. The oil when emptied did have a milky color to it. What a way to start off with your first boat purchase. Please help

first off no worries
second ya need a better description, if the holes are the two dime sized ones about 6" below the cowl on the aft end of the exhaust housing about all you will get at an idle is a mist. unles someone has buggered with the cooling system.
that motor did not have a tell tale I dont think, one can be added but I think the fist tell tale motors were about 79 or 80.
did you check your gearcase oil before or after running the engine? checking just after can be misleading as air bubbles will give a funny look to the oil. did ya run fuel stabilizer while fogging?
allow the gear case to sit overnight and recheck the oil. if its milky still you have a few months to have fun. but if its still milky I suggest removing the unit, and at a minimum draing and refilling then storing on its side and flipping it each week. the upper bearing on the drive shaft sits above oil level and moisture in the case will rust it. best bet is if it has water in it tear it down and preserve the shiney parts now.

The motor sat for a full day before we drained the oil. The two holes are not blocked or obstructed.
ok, so what does all this mean! Is a gasket missing? Do i need to replace them. What will need to be done to fix this?

Did you use new gaskets for the fill & drain plugs? If not ----------

yes, new gaskets or seals were used for the two screws after the oil was drained. So, should water be coming out between the exaust body and the lower unit? how much water should be coming out of the two holes? is this an easy fix?
