Hello, been lurking for a while first post. New boat owner as of a month ago. Here is the issue I'm having, 1981 Evinrude 25 Hp 2 cly 2 cycle just bought this motor on Sunday.
Built a stand for it using pics/plans I found on this site, motor starts and runs in a barrel. It has a water leak just above the spark plug a steady seep. The guy I got the motor from said he had replaced the thermostat and may not have got all the bolt tight, a couple were a little loose and I gave them maybe a 1/4 turn. Can I just remove the cover plate and reapply sealant, or is it more complicated than that ? I would like to try the motor on my boat, but not if I risk ruining the motor.

seems to leak around this bolt and maybe others

E25RC1M is the mod # this was pull start only, but has been converted to elec start. compression test this AM reads 115 psi in both cly

thanks in advance

I would just pull it off and replace the gasket. Same part used over many years and it's still available for about $8.00

No Title

previous owner said he had changed the thermostat....didn't use a gasket and I'm pretty sure that's why I have the leak.

Yeah that would probably cause it!! At least the water jacket looks very clean.
