1996 2050 Bayliner boat with 2003 Mercuiser 305 5.0L MPI Alfa One. Water is coming in the back of the boat around the stern drive area. It is not comming from the engine because it is cold water. At first it leaked only when the engine was off/ not running. But now it does not always leak. I thought it was bell housing according to the manual. I guess I am just looking for a place to start. It has been a while since my last post. Boat has been running great for a while. Thanks guys!

In your comment above, did you mean that it still only leaks when running or it now always leaks.
One thing you are going to have to do is find out exactly where the water is coming in from. There are a group of possibilites, and someone randomly guessing each place will eventually hit on where it's leaking.
Best thing to do is wipe everything dry and start watching for water while the boat is in the water, run the engine if necessary. Look around the drive shaft, the shift cable, where the water intake hose is, the electrical wires, even around the edge. Possibly the steering seal is leaking, or even the trim hose block or exhaust Y seal is leaking.
It's going to take using feel, flashligtht, mirrors, or anything else to find the problem. Then we can figure out what is causing the leak in that area.
No magic bullet for water leaks, sorry.

I have to agree with Don....your post did not make sense....please read and advise us what you were trying to say about what it is doing now.

Another question, when you said that it used to leak only when the engine was off....did that mean that it didn't leak when the engine running (sitting at the dock, ideling) or didn't leak while the boat was moving ? Sorry for all of the questions....it does matter when trying to figure out something like this on a boat we can't see.

I would look carefully at the y pipe junction near the transom. The exhaust shutters can break free and end up down there moving around, and wear a hole in that y pipe.Running ,no sweat, moored, leaking.
