I changed my plugs today in my 140 chrysler. One plug looked wet and was really clean. It had a cream like color to it. I looked in my manual and it said I may have water leakage in the cylinder. It did not say anything about how to find out for sure or how to fix it. You guys got any thoughts on what I am bout to face? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rhyno,

More than likely, it's a head gasket. Usually a fairly simple and straightforward job.

Re: water leakage in cylinder???

I by all means am not a boat mechanic, so please don't start work on it without other opinions, but this is what I had: my 115 Evinrude had a low-compression in one cylinder according to previous owner. took my head off motor to have a look. it had a broke head gasket(at the compression ring of gasket) and thus cooked the gasket out into water gaket area. this in turn let water into my cylinder as well as lowering compression ( I Imagine). the plug-cylinder walls-piston were all washed clean from this. haven't re-started yet but appears no other damage was done. betting your head gasket likewise is leaking into cylinder. I would think as long as impeller kept working lake water would keep motor cool enough to prevent cracking of head ect..my opinion only. good luck Gene

I was thinking the same. I am going to run it this weekend and then check the new plugs to see how they look. I figured that in a car the lack of coolant is what causes the problems. Unless I run the dry I might be ok. Wonder how hard of a job it would be to replace a head gasket. Also I read about the exhaust gasket causing water intake?? Sound familar?? Thanks for the help.

Replacing a head gasket is not a hard job. You do not want to run a motor with a leaking gaket because the piston may get hammered by the water. The spark plug is not the problem, it is just one outcome of the problem. Fix the problem before it gets more expensive.
