I have a 1987 evinrude 120 hp v4 vro. There is three pin sized water streams peeing between gear case and motor that I haven't noticed before.

I recently changed the impeller and re tightened the gear case bolts according to prescribed tension .

Is this a water leak?
Is water getting in the gear case oil?
Would tightening the gear case bolts a little more be a remedy?

Thanks in advance!

Is water getting in the gear case oil? Easy check for this would be to drain the gear case oil and take a look...

Thanks in advance! If you already torqued them to the correct spec, tightening them further could create a bad situation like pulled threads or worse...

Just my $.02, I haven't been working on OB's that long so I am learning as I go...

It's normal, nothing to worry about. If you're concerned about water in the gear oil, let it sit overnight and crack the drain screw. If there's any water in the oil it'll come out first. Or you'll get milky oil.

You didn't apply sealer to the joint did you? That's OK, hardly anybody does. And their motors all leak. Don't worry about it, it won't hurt a thing. The water that squirts out there is destined to be expelled somewhere else anyway. No, it won't get into the gearcase. If it bugs you too much, loosen the bolts enough to allow the gearcase to drop down enough to get some sealer in there, and retighten them. Most any sealer suitable for metal to metal fitups will work.
