Water leaking from engine--low starboard side

Hi all. New to the site........ I recently puchased a 1984 Four Winns w/ a Mercruiser 470 (3.7L). After taking her out a few times, I noticed a large amount (several gallons) of water that drains when I pull the plug. I think I've been able to trace the source of the water. At the rear of the engine, on the starboard side, I can see a steady drip of water exiting the engine while running. It's dripping from under the engine ID tag that is rivited to the block. It appears to be dripping out of a hole in the bell housing. I assume it's entering the bell housing from somewhere above, and exiting thru the only hole. Any thoughts on where this water is coming from? Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome aboard.

your 470 motor is heat exchanged cooled, so the water will either be on the inlet of the heat exchanger, or at the exhaust elbow exiting the motor.

I agree with Bt,
I'd inspect all the bellows. Lift the drive and take a good look

Thanks for the info. I can see water coming from the bell housing when using garden hose/ear muffs. Could this still be the bellows?

OK, thats not right unless the water passage O ring AND the thick rubber ring are missing or damaged. Pull the drive to inspect
That lets water under pressure into the main bellow

if you do have straight water in your motor, you have other issues as well.
