Somehow water is getting into cylinder, I pulled the plate and gasket looks new. Is there any other way water could get into cylinder? I do not know how water comes out with the plug down tight. And the motor runs perfectly!! Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

You are in the wrong forum. Is the water jacket gasket leaking they like to leak around the plugs holes.

Now in the Merc forum.

Which cylinder? If it's the bottom, a failing lower crankshaft seal can cause this.

Did you replace the gasket ?----Was the correct gasket used ?-------I am nearly certain it is a common failure of the cover gasket !

I have ordered a new gasket, but it has a new gasket on it, someone has already tried to fix it.

Try either resurfacing it or double up the gasket around the spark plug holes.

Is water actually in the cylinder or is water leaking around the spark plug?

Leaking around the plug is either the gasket or cover plate or both.

The opening to the thread said water is getting in the cylinders. Let's try again.

Is water leaking around the plug when running?

What is the serial # of your motor ?---What is the part # of the gasket that was recieved / ordered for you ?--To me this sounds like an easy fix.

1987 35hp mercury sierra part #18-2805 27-85490-2 md this is the gasket I have ordered If this does not fix, I have a backup motor I can take the plate from. I just assumed that this motor was built like an evinrude, now i see that the water could come out around the plug, not by it. Thanks so much for your help
