I am in my first season with a 1988 Mako 17 with a 115 Evinrude. Is there anyone out there that has a similar setup. I am not sure if the water line on this boat is right and I am looking to check against another similar boat. If someone could measure the draft at the corners of the transom it would give me something to compare to.
My scupper are above water even with me standing in the rear of the boat, but my swim platform is under water ( it is on starboard side). I am thinking of pulling the boat and relocating the water line, but I want to make sure the boat is sitting properly in the water and I don't have a more serious problem (ie water in hull or transom).

Re: Water line on Mako 17

I have the same boat and the best advice I can give you is to do what I did.Put the boat in the water and let it sit a day and pull it without cleaning off the waterline.Use that line as your guide.I bottom painted to the top of the line and put a wide tape stripe up from the bottom paint to allow protection on the hull for when I am in the boat moving around in the cockpit.I never get a scum line anymore because the water line is rarely above the tape. What a pleasure to not have to clean the ring around the boat.I also raised the stripe on my big boat for the same reason. What a pleasure!!!!!Charlie

Thanks Charlie
I was planning to do almost exactly what you recommended, but I wanted a measurement from another boat just to verify that my 17 was not sitting unusually low. My swim platform which may not be orginal equipment has grass growing all over it. I hear of some concerns on the Mako web sites about the foam holding water and I know that before I got the boat the rod holders and the seal around the console was leaking.
If you get a chance could you take a measurement at the corner of the transom just so I have something to compare to.

Thanks............Ghost

Ghost,if your scuppers are above the water line with you standing in the stern ,then the boat is certainly not sitting too low.Every 17 Mako I have seen including mine has the scuppers just below the water line.Charlie
