Water overflow, normal or bad?

I have a 1989 2-stroke 90Hp Mariner (3 Cyl) outboard. I just noticed that water is slightly trickling out through the top, not alot but enough to notice it.

It gives water fine through the tell tale and engine sounds good.

I have attached a picture which arrows pointing to the spot where water is flowing from.

Is this normal, or do I need a new gasket or something else???

Please help. Thanks

yes you need a new gasket, you will have to lift the powerhead to change it

Ok Thanks. Is that something a novice/unexperienced boater could do, or should I let a shop take care of it?

its not very difficult at all for you and a buddy or if you had a hoist you could do it by yourself. its always good to have a manual though.

Ok thanks. Any idea what the gasket is called or where I could find the parts #? I'm Danish so technical terms and words makes it slightly more difficult to find the correct parts (-:

There are 2 gaskets there. Not sure which one is the leaker, but here are the numbers of them.

Gasket, Exhaust plate 27-430083
Gasket, powerhead 27-430073

Click HERE to download the service manual (Password for the file is <ribforum>)

exhaust plate gasket. you need the upper gasket thats fits between the powerhead and exhaust plate. do a google search for your motor or try ebasicpower.com or crowleymarine to look at some diagrams. hope this helps

Re: Water overflow, normal or bad?

Thanks to both of you guys for fast responding. Highly appreciated!

Any idea what I should expect (dollar wise) if I let a Marine Mechanic do this?

Thanks again
