Hi guys, I have a 1986 Johnson, 150, Have only used it a couple times, last time out I got a overheat buzzer. Checked the pump and found it had the wrong impeller and key in it. Replaced the pump and decided to check the thermostats. took off the cover and , whopee, no thermostats. Hooked up a water hose to the pump outlet and get good flow from the starboard side, but very little from the port side. Question is where do I go next? Pull the head cover or will the whole head have to come off? Thanks for your help. Model # J150TLCDCC

Re: Water passage pluged

Do you have a manual for your motor. It should show deflectors in the water jacket under the head. Sometimes they swell and restrict the water flow. I think the V6 crossflows have them. I'd go ahead and pull at least the port side head. Also this I'm not too sure of of a lot of those V6's have a small hole in the thermostat cover, so if yours has the holes then whoever pulled the thermostats out must have filled the holes with something. Check those covers carefully.

Walker, thanks for the help. Mine does have the hole on the thermostat covers, but it is over the pressure release valve that is below the thermostat. Do have the manual, and it shows the deflectors. Trying to find time to pull the head, will update on the findings. Thank you.

Hi habu, Would it be a printing error? your model # indicates that your motor is a 1968 instead of a 1986
