I read somewhere it is a good idea to fit a water pressure gauge my qu is where does it get installed and is the type of gauge itself located at the powerhead or is it remotely monted at the dash board with the other gauges? secondly what sort of pressure should I be looking at during normal operation.

As a start, go to the Teleflex website technical support page - there's a section with installation instructions for various outboards. You can see if it seems to make sense for yours. I installed a teleflex gauge on my early 80s John. V6 and it works great. I'm sure other companies make great gauges as well, but this site will get you started on feasibility, at least.

teleflex tech support

What D. said. Yes, the gauge is mounted on the dash, with the other gauges. It is connected to the motor via a 1/4" tube. Usually you get everything in a kit starting from about $35. The Teleflex site will tell you where to connect the gauge tube on your motor and what is the typical pressure range.

Just a PS to my message. I have a few teleflex gauges and have been happy with them, and their website is excellent. But so you know, Faria and I'm sure others, make similar gauges and might suit you as well or better (in terms of matching other gauges, for instance).
