I am installing this 85 hp force engine on my pontoon boat, I am looking at adding either the tell tale or a pressure gauge. Being it is a pontoon it will be hard to see the tell tale unless I aim it way up or run the hose along side the helm. Now the pressure gauges I have seen come in 30 or 40 psi versions. I want it to be as accurate as possible which means I want the pressure reading to be as close to the center of the gauge as possible. should I get the 30 or the 40 psi gauge. I read most of the tell tale post but could not find anything out about the pressure. Maybe I should just run te tell tale to the helm and make it aimable. LOL

Either one.
I'd go for the 40.

Double check the overheat system.
Make sure the buzzer works.
The buzzer isn't real loud.
I change them out and use a motorcycle/corn horn.
The gauge is nice but most people don't watch the dash
enough to really notice if the pressure drops.
I know if I watch the gauges long enough I'll get seasick :(

59husteler, I have had a gauge on my 1997 Force 120HP from the beginning. It has been on 2 boats now. It consistently shows ~12 PSI. That's since new and even now. A 30 or 40 PSI gauge probably won't make a big difference.

The value of a gauge is that it is easier to see pressure drops over time as the impeller wears, and A SUDDEN DROP IF/WHEN THE INPUT IS BLOCKED. It might also help in telling at what RPM the pressure increases if you idle or troll at low speed much. A change here might also show wear of partial blockage.

I'm half deaf and a buzzer is practically useless with all the background noise while cruising at speed. BTW, I use a new 15HP Tohatsu 4 stroke for trolling so as not to load up my 120Hp 2 stroke. It's also a safety consideration with an older motor as my Force.

Thanks!, If it is generally about 12 I will go with the 30. I am also going to make sure the horn works.
