Water Pressure Gauge Not Working

I just purchased a 2003 Yamaha 115 4 stroke that has a gauge called water pressure thats not working, the motor is running cool and the pee hole has a good stream of water/pressure.

Is this gauge just a thermastat or truly measuring pressure? How would I test & repair?

Thanks for any advice/help you may have.

Re: Water Pressure Gauge Not Working

It is supposed to measure water pressure. A thermostat controls water flow like a valve and has nothing to do with the guage. A water pressure gauge is not an electrical gauge. It works just like the speedometer. Water pressure in a tube compresses air in the tube causing the needle to rise. The disconnect the tube at the back of the gauge and start the engine. If water flows out of the tube the gauge is bad. If no water flows, the tube is plugged, pinched, or possibly disconnected back at the engine but that would mean water is exiting the engine where it isn't supposed to. Remove the engine cover and look. Your eyes are the only test equipment you need.

I check the hose as you stated, no water at the gauge. Then I removed the hose at the engine and had no water coming out of the engine block.
The motor pee's fine and doesn't over heat, but I'd like to get this gauge working. What should I check next?

Was the hose on the engine side connected to a brass fitting that is screwed into the engine block? If so see if the fitting is plugged. A fine wire poked threw it may do the trick or remove the fitting and blow threw it to see. There must be something plugged and that's about all that is left.

I checked the brass fitting, the hole was to small to run a wire in. However I took the fitting off the motor and could blow & see right through it.

Started the engine with the fitting out, still no water coming from the block... Any suggestions on what to try next?

Still pee's good and doesn't get hot..

Then the cooling system is plugged somewhere. With that fitting removed water should be pouring out.

So what do I check next?

I have seen other post with the same problem that nobody has figured out, somebody must have a solution short of going to a dealer.

If anybody has solved this problem in the past please share what the corrective action was.

Thanks
