can anyone tell me were you hook up a water pressure gauge on a 1994 evinrude 120hp motor. i know were the hose comes out of the block and then out to the outside. if i put a tee in this hose will the gauge work? will i get a good reading? is there a better place to put the hose for the gauge

Re: water pressure gauge

Most water pressure gauges are connected to the tell tale hose Wayne. A tee is used for the connection. What you need to do after installation is get some reference readings. Pressure at idle, mid throttle and wide open throttle. Write them down for future reference.

wayne 39 On my 1990 200 I came off the pressure side of the water control valve ( the 90 degree elbow coming from the adapter going to the water control valve ). I get 20 psi at 3500 around 30 psi at WOT. Hope this helps.

Re: water pressure gauge

You've gotten a couple of ideas for location for the pressure gauge pickup. Obviously, it depends on your motor.

For a reference and some good starting info., go to the Teleflex web site. There's a lot of info on installation of their pressure and other gauges for various makes and models of outboards and I/Os. You may or may not use a teleflex gauge, but the info should be good and will probably give you an idea of how it will go with your engine. The site also has charts for the pressure readings you should see for various makes and models of outboards. I found both the installation guide and pressure specs to be accurate for my engine and imagine it would be accurate for any other brand of pressure gauge system.

For what it's worth, I installed a pressure gauge a year or two ago and I really recommend them. It was an easy DIY, the toughest part being brave enough to cut a large hole in the dash with a hole saw!

No more compulsively looking back at the tell tale (which for my rig is ALWAYS getting clogged and not working). I now compulsively glance at the dash gauge, which is quicker and safer than looking back at the motor when underway. After a couple of years, I'm about to just remove the T fitting and just run the pressure gauge tube without the tell tale tube.

Re: water pressure gauge

The water control valve is in the middle of your throttle linkage andin between the linkage and the motor.

Re: water pressure gauge

The 94 120 does not have the water control valve. Look at the adaptor plate that the powerhead sits on. There is a small allen head plug, near the throttle arm and just below it. There may be two on some loopers. Remove the plug and install the fitting for the gauge there. At this point you are reading direct water pump pressure.

If you T into the overboard line on a looper (like you do on a crossflow) you will get extremely low readings.

Good luck!
