Water pressure gauge

I'm just sitting watching old Roland Martin and he's going on about outboard cooling water pressure. I've seen you guys mention it occasionally Apart from the obvious reasons such as noticing a gradual decline in water pump efficiency or a blockage, are there any other benefits of having a water pressure gauge and if so is there a "generic " way of tapping into the cooling system or is it engine specific? Thanks...W

ARCWINSTON,

I WOULD NOT own an outboard without one. Especially on a boat where you cannot always see the telltale water stream.

Hooking them up on an outboard, with a telltale, is easy.

You simply tee into the telltale hose, under the hood.

Usualy the gauge has installation instructions for different motors.

Easy to install.

If your impeller fails, or you have a water intake blockage, etc, you will see a drop in water pressure long before you overheat the motor.

This is a good thing. :p

What brand, how much, and where do you like to buy them?

Re: Water pressure gauge

A water pressure gauge also lets you know how high the motor can be trimmed before losing water pickup. This is one good reason to have them with a jack plate.
