2003 Mariner(similar to a Mercury)25hp Electric Start with a commander 2000 remotes and wiring harness.
Hello all from England,
I have read the large number of posts regarding cooling problems on outboard motors. The spectre of a seized £2000 motor and being stranded miles from land awaiting help alarms me! I do carry a 5hp as a get-me-home motor as insurance.
I was wondering would I be prudent in fitting a water pressure guage to my motor? I have consulted my Mercury workshop manual but I cannot find any mention of fitting one to my model.
Would it be possible? What parts would I need? and how do I install one?
I should mention that my Mariner is fitted with a water thermostat.
Regards, Joyce boat

Prudent but not really needed. Rule of thumb:
If it pees strong at idle - it's OK. If it don't pee OK at idle, find out why BEFORE you go out.

-W

Re: Water Pressure Guage Installation.

Thanks Clams Canino for your quick reply. I indulge in the form of fishing known over here in England, as wreck fishing. From the North East coast of England which means on occasion round trips of over 30 miles and up to 10 miles out to sea thus my concern that although the motor may pee ok at the onset of the trip who knows what could happen later?
Regards, Joyce boat
