Great forum with lots of knowledge. I did not find an answer I need after searching threads.
91 Johnson 175
Little background:
My water pressure guage stopped working and needle us Under the 0 peg.
Last summer I had a couple overheat horns with no water pressure. worked fine inbetween, so I took to mechanic in fall. He replaced inpeller. Also convinced me to replace VRO and put new seal under power head, as was leaking fuel/oil.
Put boat in water and started and water preasure was low and water shooting out bottom of power head.
Took it back in and shop says plastic plug fell out of hole where another water pressure guage could be installed.
So put it in water last night and no water pressure on guage, but motor was peeing.
Needle actually under peg on the guage. Called shop and they now say 'bad guage' don't know what happened. Told me to run it a bit to see if it starts working.
Any ideas on cause or how to fix? Or am I best off just to get a new guage.
Thanks!

Re: Water pressure guage messed up

The water pressure guage just works off air pressure in the hose that runs to it. Disconnect the hose at the engine and apply 15 PSI - see if there is really anything wrong with the guage. If the hose will not hold the air pressure, replace the hose.

If the guage needle is on the bottom side of the stop pin, the guage is maxed out. Pull the hose off the back side of the guage, and see if it returns to zero. If not the guage is damaged. Over pressure from a air hose would do that.

Thanks.
Took hose off and a little water came out and plugged back in and a little bounce of the needle. Started motor and water flowed out of hose. Sounds like I need a new guage.
2 questions:
1) 1991 Johnson 175 VRO. What size guage.
I have been running a 30psi for 6 years and it seemed fine, but on teleflex website, looks like v6's should use 60 psi. Just want to get the best one.
2) Guage will go in a 92 Champion with plastic dash and guages have curved lense. Red international color, but those lenses are flat. I want to match the rest, so would Amega series work?
