On my 2009 Sea Ray 250, when I switch on the water pressure switch, I can hear the pump running. But water is spurting out from a small hole adjacent to the fresh water inlet. Like it's an overpressure situation. I screwed a plug with a gate valve into the inlet, otherwise water pours out as it should but the small hole is still spurting. What gives?

Your saying the fresh water inlet as in where you fill up the holding tank ? And the hole next to it is spurting out water . That fitting should be a vent for the holding tank and that should only spit out water when you have filled the holding tank to capacity and then some. There is no reason why it should be discharging when you turn on your water pressure as the water pump is mounted outside the tank and should only be siphoning water from the holding tank, not pressurizing it. And I would remove the gate valve you put in .
