Does anyone know what the water pressure gauge needs to read on 1991 evinrude 225. It is about 5 psi at idle and 10psi at wot. Is that within spec?

Re: water pressure

Can't speak to the 225 but can tell you what I know. Yours seems right to me if the guage is on the dash or consol. Distance from the motor is a factor I think. My 1987 OMC V4's run at 10 lbs at idle and 20 lbs at WOT - - But my guages are mounted right on the transom and the pressure tubes are real short.

Re: water pressure

Since there's no flow through the line to the gauge, distance doesn't really matter. My 200hp 'rude has 16-18psi at wfo. One of the functions of the pressure gauge is monitoring waterpump wear, so if you don't know how old the waterpump is, now's the time to change it. With a new pump, note the pressure at idle and wfo. These readings will be the base for determining pump wear and cooling ability.

c/6

Hooty
