I,m trying to remove lower gearcase to replace water pump. everything go great till I get to the shift rod retaining clip on the manual, can't find it. It shows in the manual to be behind throttle linkage, with a pull clip. Mine has had linkage to below lower cowling then a offset to continue to the lower unit . what am I missing it has to be right in front of me? This is a 1986 v4 thanks for any help

Howz everything in Roundtown, Okam? Good I hope.

First, there seven bolts to remove from the lower unit before it'll drop. Two on each side, the bolt holding the trim tab, the bolt under (above) the trim tab and a bolt in front of the trim tab. The shift linkage is well hidden under the bottom carb and is most accessable (if you can call it that) from the starboard side.

g'luck & c/6
Hooty

Take the cover of - stand by the starboard side of the motor - look under the lower carb - have a friend put it in/out of gear - you can see the connection - - it is there (I have a pair of 87s).

Thank hooty and solittle, found it not as described in the clmers manual, not surprised. When I pulled the gearcase off I noticed that I did not have the waterpump outlet gromment that fits over the tube going to the head.It must have desinigrated or ? . I did not get the part with the impeller kit I bought. Do either of you or anyone know the part # so I can order the grommet or o-ring from a dealer? model# E140TLCDC, serial# G1134300. Thanks guys for quick responses as always.
