water pump blocking

Just about every time I go out at some point I look back and theirs just a dribble coming out of the tell tale, I've got to stop the boat and unblock it with a bit of wire! Not Ideal! Am I up for a new pump or is their another way to rectify this problem?

It sounds to me like the pump is working but you have some debries in the water tube or water jacket. If you are cleaning it out and it is pumping again there may be a piece of rubber impeller in there somewhere that is churning around and getting right back in to the tube. Either way I would pull the lower unit and flush out the motor and while you have it off might as well put in a new impeller...................Jerry

In most cases of a repeated plug of the telltale, you have to pull the hose off the fitting on the motor and run it to clear the problem, rodding it out simply pushes the blockage back up the tube and the water pushes back in the hole. When clearing the fitting we generally drill the fitting out to help prevent the trouble from repeating it's self.
