V6 Merc (mariner)135 1991 model.
Replaced water pump recently. when I installed the lower unit and test ran with muffs on, My concern is that I have quite a fair bit of water coming out from where the anode blocks attach ie. just above the anti cavitation plate. I have more water comming out here than thru the centre of the prop. There is an average tell tale coming out, which has normal temperature ie. can just hold my hand under without getting too hot. The water coming out from behind the anode block and the rear of the prop is of luke-warm temperature. As I havent run the boat for 4 months I am not sure if this is normal or if it is doing damage??

I am not familiar with your engine, but I would suspect that you did not get the water tube inserted properly when you reinstalled the lower unit.

Thanks Gary, I'll remove the L.U. and inspect.
Is the plastic tube that slips over the water pump outlet just for guiding the metal tube into position or does it help seal this connection??

Re: Water Pump Concerns

The plastic tube is a guide but there is a seal needed to be placed around the metal tube first.

I think there is supposed to be a rubber seal (like a small but thick, round, black rubber band that goes around the metal pick-up tube) the plastic tube slips over the metal tube with the rubber seal on it.

Re: Water Pump Concerns

Have dropped the L.U. and discovered that all was well with the guide tube/ water tube where it enters the top of the water pump. Where the water is discharging (from the cavity behind the anode blocks), there seems to be a completely separate passage (separate from the main exhaust passage)inside the leg.Is this where the main bulk of the water is supposed to discharge from?? I thought that the water mixed with the exhaust discharge higher up Eg. behind the exhaust cover plate at the rear of the engine and then out the centre of the prop. Could this mean I may have a blockage somewhere in the engine??
