water pump connecting tube

hey guys, i have a 135 mercury that i removed the lower unit to do some work.Coming off of the water pump there is a 2 to 3 inch plastic connector tube. Is the tube supposed to fit tight over the fixed tube coming from the power pack, the one i have fits loose and when i removed i didnt see any rubber grommet or any thing sealing it.all help is greatly appreciated

That tube is supposed to fit loose. It's mearly a guide tube to assist in lining up the waterpump to the transport tube when you reassemble the lower leg.

Underneath the tube, in the water pump housing, is the seal that holds the water pipe. The tube just makes it easy to line up the lower when installing it.
