Im sure this has been asked many times but I need a quick answer. I have no water coming out my engine so I replaced impeller. Now all it does is spit just like it did before. Shouldnt I have a steady stream of water coming out? I have the engine hooked to flush muffs to get water but the muffs dont fit quite right. I have a 1990 50hp force 2 stroke.

You will have it "spit" Out of the two holes in the upper leg, this will lessen at higher RPMs. If you have a tell-tail it will be a stream of water.

A tell- tail is the way to know for SURE its pumping water.

See the thread "adding a tell-tail on my force" It may be back a bunch of pages by now.

I have a cheap set of muffs with a metal bar in between, I had to bend (spread) the bars just a little to make them fit, they fit snug, and perfect now, I put them on under, & beneath the prop, then only turn the water on 1/4 turn, till it starts, then I readjust the water valve (pressure) to suit what it needs, I never have a problem anymore. The key is to get them to fit good, & then don't start with too much water pressure.

Best way to check is to have it in a big can or tank, the better way is to have it inthe water. Muffs are not that good for cooling water indacation. Submerge the pump.

Ok guys i removed the therm. and when I did I found the gasket half off and bent and trash behind it. I'm gonna run it with out the Therm. for awhile but I still only get spitting out the 2 little hole and some water coming out the bottom near the prepeller. When I took the vent out the top of Therm. im getting water rolling out the top of engine and I think its going to do better in the water. I worried that I may have done damage from over heating but I never heard alarm sound and not sure the alarm is even working. I did see steam when I was on the water and thats what made me check the water stream in the first place. The engine runs fine though so maybe no damage. While I have you here how fast would you say this boat should run with a 50hp and being a bay linner capri? I got passed by a pontoon boat and thats why im asking.....lmao! I adjusted the tilt and it seems to be doing better but still not setting the water on fire. How much differance will it make with bad water flow? I read that it can slow me down some and also that the prepeller with missing paint can also do the same thing.

Check the rateing plate in the boat to see the max HP you can put on the boat.

Pontoon boat passed you? Did you have the motor running at the time this happened?:D
