water pump for 50 h/p

I just put my 1972 50 h/p back together and the water pump kit i put in works great. Now for the other problem, when i bought this boat the control box for the shift and throttle was apart and when i put it together the shifting is back words. I saw a post here about 4-6 weeks ago about someone else having the same problem but i can,t find that post. Can someone help me out here with either that post or what could be wrong?

original mercontrol black box with two levers.

If the box you have is of 1972 manufacture and it shifts your 50HP mercury backwards then the box you have is not for a 50 it's for a 20HP

Well ,finally took the boat out for my first time and boy did it run great. Other than the backword shifting trouble it was a blast. That engine sure made that little 14 ft crestliner runabout go.
