I am refurbishing a 1974 Evinrude 3-cyl 70hp “Triumph” that supposedly was rebuilt in the past.

I am replacing the thermostat and water-pump just for precautionary measures. When I pulled the water-pump, there was not a gasket between the impeller housing and not a gasket beneath the stainless wear plate that the impeller housing sits on. Manual does not show gaskets either.

However, rebuild kit for this engine has a gasket for the impeller housing and the wear plate. I am hesitant about installing the gaskets in case a “clearance” issue is involved. Two gaskets acting as a spacer could create a problem if engine originally did not require gaskets.

Any info will be greatly appreciated!
