I have a mercruiser 888, 302. Was checking it out and the water flow from the lower unit is not coming out much at the hose before the t stat. I dropped the lower unit, checked the pump, and it was in great shape. made sure it seated on the pickup tube. Whick I noticed that there is somthing like a wrap ( maybe 4" long ( on the pickup tube that was not in good shape.

I put the muffs on, and start the engine, after a few seconds, there is some water coming out of the upper hose , which I have off be fore the t stat to see how much flow there is. My question is,, how much water does the impeller pump, pump? I have an amount like the size of a pen coming up. Shouldnt there be quite a bit more than that. Kinda new to this as you can see.

That wrap is there to help guide the tube.If it's bad replace it.While your at it replace the pump.Check for old pump pieces in the tubes and hoses.Back flush the system with a water hose.
On the hose your not gonna get a lot of water.Put the boat in the water then start it and check the hose. You should have a LOT of water comming from the pump when it's in the water.J

Ok. That makes sense about the wrap. Im making a list of parts Im ordering. Will add the wrap and a pump kit to the list. Thanks a bunch. I have been reading these forums for a week now, very helpful. Nice people to talk too.

Check the water hose in the bell housing and the water pocket that the pipe goes into also.

Ok, that all sounds good, thanks for the help. Just reading forums with no avail about wobble rollers. If anyone sees this, I have 32 of the smooth 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" black rubber rollers on a 3/4" shaft. There junk, but was curious if I need to replace them with the same, or maybe go with one of them yellow gates ones. My thing is, my ( bearing) i guess you call it, is like 3/16",, Basically a washer inside the roller. These gates ones have a 1 1/2" bearing in them. Which I can cut the old back washer off and weld it back a 1/" to make it fit.

Another question is that do these new rollers come with the sleeves and washers? or not. No listings really state they do.
