I have what seems to be a 1975 (according to the model lookups) Mercury
65hp thunderbolt with the blue strips on the cowling. My serial number is 4233031. I'm looking to get a waterpump for this thing but everywhere I have looked keeps listing as a 3 cylinder but my engine is a 4 cylinder. From what I have looked up the original part number was 69564A75. Every site I've looked at tells me that this part was discontinued. I'm totally confused as to what part I actually need since everything seems to be contradicting.
My question is according to my serial number I first off have a '75 model right? Then, where can I find the right impeller for my engine since all the links seem to say my engine is a 3 cylinder?
I THOUGHT I had a bit of mechanical inclination to me, but after this darn Mercury, I'm beginning to think I'd better stick to my Johnson/Evinrudes...
Thanks Yall.

Re: water pump help

Merc never made a blue-stripe 4-cyl 65hp. The last year for the 66 cubic-inch 65hp Four was 1971 and it was a "red-striper".

Regardless, if you've got a Four you've got a Four. Better than a Triple, anyway! Maybe it's an 85hp and somebody's messed with the striping.

iBoats has a pump kit for $22.99 that should fill the bill nicely:

http://www.iboats.com/Water-Pump-Ki...7802912--**********.017069578--view_id.187583

Note that there are more parts in there than what you'll need, any extra gaskets, O-rings, etc are meant for other motors, as this kit will cover a wide range of models. Good for any ol' Full Gear Shift Inline Four or Six.

Perhaps if you posted a small pic of the wrap-around and also a pic of the Stbd side of the powerhead, it'd help identify your motor.

Re: water pump help

I'm pretty sure that it has blue stripping, but I'll check tommorrow as well as snap a couple pics if I can get them to load.
Either way the link listed should get me what I need according to my serial number I suppose?
I sure am thankful to yall that have been there and are willing to offer advice.
Thanks a million.

Re: water pump help

OK, I stand corrected. The strip on the engine IS red and not blue, but it is a 4 cylinder and not a 3 cylinder. I guess I'm still confused as to what year it is then. As I said earlier the serial number is 4233031 and unless someone has pulled the wool its a 65hp 4 cylinder. On the head is the numbers 1021-3514 if this helps any way. I hate to sound so stupid, but these things are difficult to figure out.
Either way, I want to make sure that the previously listed pump will work for my engine before I buy it.
Thanks for all the help.

The pump kit I linked to will fit any 66 cubic-inch Inline Four regardless of year or HP. It will also fit any Full Gear Shift Inline Six..........ed
