i have an 85 hp evinrude 85895C 1978 . its actually running fine, but i did notice it seems to be running a bit hotter than i remember when i first got it, and seems like there is less water coming from the weep hole . So i have decided to tear into it and replace the water pump/impeller. there seems to be an endless variety of parts and kits to do this.
Can anyone suggest a part number for a kit to do this ? also, does the kit come with instructions? just so you know, i would rate myself high as an auto mechanic, but still green as a boat motor mechanic .
Also, is there any other parts that i should replace while i have it torn down somewhat? i have read other post that mention thermostats, but i don't see any listed on the parts list from BRP.
i have found this from brp , is this all i would need ?

Re: water pump/impeller 86hp evinrude 85895C 1978

ive asked the same question on a different site and never got an answer but ive already replaced mine(wp)-'79 johnson 115- i can tell you that there is a newer style thermostat that has something to do with the pressure relief valves but i dont know the part #...i just pulled mine out and cut some of the plastic off to help increase water flow

maybe someone can enlighten us both.
