Re: Water pump impeller for NS70A

Drive gear was bad in my lower unit I bought a used unit of Ebay here is the post.

The water pump on the unit I bought would not pump with ear muffs on it I put the pump of my LU,which was working good before, on and it wouldn't pump. I don't know anything about impeller's, but both look good no rubber missing. What am I doing wrong? If I can't find an impeller I'm out $400 and have a boat that's only good for parts.

3B7-65021-1 is superceded to 3B7650212M

No, it will not work. You will either need to find a dusty NOS unit, or get a reproduction from Australia.

Are you sure it's not pumping, or is the telltale just clogged?

It sure looks like the same impeller, but guess you can't go by looks. Do you have a link or way to get Australia reproduction. Also do you have the part # for the impeller I need.

I assume telltale is what I call pee hole and no it's not clogged. With my original pump on the unit it did pump for a few seconds so I thought it might be pumping and not coming out the hole. I idled it for a few minutes and the heat buzzer came on and I shut it off. I'm thinking I might have put the impeller in rotating the wrong way would this cause it not to pump?
Thanks for your help.

Buyer beware on the reproduction. It's handmade by a guy who was/is/will be experimenting on his design, materials and production.

Think about it. The impeller is turned by the driveshaft. It will not be flipped backwards, unless the driveshaft turns backwards.

I know the drive shaft only turns one way. I didn't do a good job of describing what I meant I think I put the impeller in the cup with the fins curved the wrong way. If I did put impeller wrong would the fins flip around when the DS turned or would it not pump. I haven't had time to pull the LU to see what's going on with pump.

Re: Water pump impeller for NS70A

Normally, when assembling the wp, you install the impeller onto the shaft, engaging the key, and then lower the upper pump housing, and turn the ds cw while lowering, so the impeller vanes will go the right way. Yes, if installed with them flipped, they should flip back over.

Odds are that although the impeller is in one piece, you aren't pumping well. Verify the side clearance wear of the plate and cup, and confirm that the water tube is inserted in the upper housing correctly. You are likely looking for a new pump. That will be either NOS or a reproduction.
