I have a 1970 Johnson 9.5. I need to replace the impeller for the water pump. I know i have to remove the lower unit but i am not sure how to do it. please help me out. thank you
Remove the four bolts holding the lower unit to the leg. You'll be able to split the pieces apart about 1/2" - 1". In the inside front you'll see a bronze block w/ two screws in it. That's the shift link coupler. Put the engine in forward gear (that'll drop the LU to it's lowest spot) and remove one of the screws. It'll come right off after that.
