water pump impeller

I am putting a new water pump on a 1983 350 260 mercruiser in the lower unit of the sterndrive I dont know which direction the fins go inside the housing of water pump the impellor was so damaged that you couldnt tell Can someone walk me through it I have the repair manual but it doesnt tell you which way the fins should be facing or does it not matter ?

Doesn't really matter - when it spins, they'll flip to the right direction.

Put a little grease on the blades when you install it

yup thats what the guys at the mercruiser shop told me

from the merc manual, the fins should be leaning counterclockwise. put the impeller on the shaft and while pressing down on the pump housing, turn the shaft clockwise.
