Water Pump Impeller

I just installed a new impeller in my 20hp merc. i am a little uncertian that the water tube went properly into the pump housing. it had a copper tube that was a little off and it took many attempts to get the lower unit to set into place. how can i test to see if the tube is in the right place? this is a 1967 model mercury 200 20hp.

Maybe you could put on some muffs, remove the spark plugs to lessen the compression and turn it by hand to see if any water comes out of the tell tale. You may be able to see if it is partially seated that way. I just did mine and without the guide, I had a heck of a time getting things lined up properly.

It Is A Pain In The Back Side!!! I Dont Have A Guide So Theres More Pain. Thanks For The Advice I'll Try That.

WELL I PULLED THE PLUGS AND USED A DRILL TO TURN THE MOTOR OVER AND IT PUMPS THANK GOD BUT I REALIZED THAT I FORGOT TO PUT THE ANODE BOLT IN ITS PLACE SO NOW I NEED TO PULL THE LOWER UNIT AGAIN!!!! ITS ALWAYS SOMTHING

lol. i always have extra bolts laying around from my motorcycles....lol so far so good though!

how do i get my lu off so i can look at my water impeller.i barely get it running but no water comes out . i have a 1979 mercury electric start long shaft i think (5509834)
