I was wondering how hard is it to replace the impeller on a 1974 evinrude 135hp? Anybody out there able to explain how to do it? I finally got the motor running and put it in the lake to see if it was pumping water and it wasn't pumping much. The motor sat for awhile and I figured it needed replaced. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: water pump impeller

its not hard at all to change first right behind the carb look for the shift rod that comes straight up disconnect the shift rod screw its going to be tight to get at. than remove the bolts on the lower unit and slide the unit out you will see the waterpump housing should take about a hour to do

Re: water pump impeller

Jennings Fla. is at the GA. border on HWY 75. It is about 4 1/2 hrs from Port Richey. I am going to take a lokk at it when it stops raining. You said ther is only four bolts holding the bottom cover on and the shift rod? One more question, what is the easiest wat to adjust the throttle cable, I have to give about 3/4 throttle before the rpm's get going good. Thanks for the help on the impeller, I think I might be able to handle that.
