Water Pump Indicator Hole, only exhaust coming out, 2002 40ph

Put on muffs, fired up, no water coming out of the hole in rear, only exhaust, let it run for a minute and shut it off. It belongs to a friends mother, they asked if i would get it running for them this year. It runs fine, but shouldn't it be peeing somewhere,

Yes -- out the tell tale on bottom cowl. Impeller was last replaced when?????

Push a piece of weed wacker string in the pee hole and be sure it is clear. Assuming that your impeller is good, maybe it is clogged as mine once was. You may also find a 1/4" pipe plug somewhere in your block that you can remove to insure that you have water flow. My 50 HP Merc has one between plug 3 and 4. That will prove that you have flow and just the pee hole is plugged. Don't expect to get a really good/normal pee flow on muffs.
