water pump issue???

Got the boat out for the 1st time in 5 years yesterday.

Here's my dilema. Since I've gotten it up and running a couple months back I have been starting it weekly in the yard and letting it come to temp. Turn it off and on a few times. Idle falls down to about 700. Seems like I could let it sit there and idle with no worries.

Yesterday got it off the trailer and in the water. Started up just fine. It was already close to temp since I had started it quick in the yard before leaving. A few minutes after pulling out off the dock and sitting there waiting for a friend it stalled. Tried starting again and had to give it some throttle to get back on. Put it in neutral and it stalled again. As long as I left a little throttle on it it would be fine. If I put it in gear it wants to stall again. If I'm quick enough I can get it going just fine.

This has been a constant issue since like the 2nd year we've had this boat and it's getting annoying. Engine doesn't look like it's over heating.

Could a failing water pump impeller be causing this?

^^^ +1. Bondo nailed it. Get a carb kit. Change your fuel filter while you're at it. Idling and revving on muffs takes little gas. Generating power takes a lot of gas.
