Water Pump on a 1961 40hp Johnson super sea horse

Hi

I have started my motor this weekend and i was wondering when it runs in a garbage can those the water supposed to come out of those 2 little holes or you need to have it in forward to see the water coming out???

No, it should come out as a sputter after a few seconds. Check to see for blockage as insects like to get in there. Mud wasps are famous for it.

is there a way to check without opening the casing for the water pump ?
