Ok,
My 2000 50 merc has little pee at idle and only some at wot. I blew through the exit hole and that improved the flow at idle for a bit, but then back to the same situation, almost none at idle. When I flush with muffs, the pee pressure is even worse. I dont have a way to know if its overheating unless of course it blows up. I will have to pay to have it removed from the water cause I have not trailer/truck. My question, should I just replace the impeller and pump if I have it taken out of water.

Help,

yah of course. replace the entire pump assembly if its old or never been replaced. Most kits Ive seen for entire assembly cost only 15 more dollars than the impeller by itself. If that still dosnt remedy the problem you may wanna check your hose for replacement as something may be in there.

thanks I will do that. Also, do you know if a 2000 50hp has a thermostat that would cut off the engine if overheat?

Re: water pump or impeller

First I am newbie and don't know how to post, so I am piggybacking here. I can't get the lower unit off my Merc 850 because I can't get the trim tab off. I think there's an allen screw inside the hole above the tab, but it seems to be rounded out so I can't get an allen to purchase. Help is greatly appreciated.
