Water pump part number question

Hi guys,

I am not sure what replacement water pump kit to get. I purchased this boat in the summer of 2013 and it is in desperate need of a new water pump.
Would someone be able to point me in the right direction?
Because I am ordering these online through this site, I don't want to get the incorrect kit.

I was not able to find a serial number or model number of the lower leg (apart from the value B309 I found stamped into the casting).

Thanks!

Your serial# should be somewhere on the upper. Check all the decals and see if one of them has it stamped in. At very least, give us the year of the boat, and the engine size.

The square end should make it a R/MR /Alpha type . pump should be Sierra 18-3320. post a pic of the underside of the pump base.

I believe that is the correct kit.
Water Pump Kit for Mercruiser 46-96148A8 46-44292A5 46-44292A3, GLM 12120 - Sierra 18-3320 - iboats
The pump housing number in the kit matches the one on the boat.
The impeller has fused to the key I believe as it slides up and down a little but I am not able to remove it from the leg. It is really on there. I will probably have to split it somehow.
I will confirm that the part numbers of the base match as well.
Thanks for your help!

Shouldn't need to split it, and I would recommend staying away from that thought. Spray sum PB Blaster or something like that on it and let it set for an hour or so. Then get a piece of flat stock and place it next to the impeller. Put a mid size flat screw driver under the impeller and tap it with a hammer against the flat stock, it should come off.

Unless you are replacing the base all parts are the same between the different early drives and the alpha.

use a small conical carbide rotary bit to score thru the brass and remove it. Then take a fine mill file and dress up the shaft a bit.

I had the same problem, check the top of the pump cover and you will find that the cover melted and transferred some aluminum to the shaft. Yes it is welded there and no it's not easy to get off. It took me a file and some sand paper and a lot of patience but 5 hours later i was able to slide the Impeler off.

I believe that is the correct kit.

Re: Water pump part number question

I have the same Alpha 1 Gen 1 drive and I use the same kit. My question is witch damn O ring do I use for the base to seal into the drive . Most of the big ones are to loose and the one that fits the base properly is a ***** to get into the lower end. Anyone else have this problem? Do they supply different o rings because the part fits different Drives?

Does the kit not come with instructions? This would be good to know before I tear it all apart.

It is possible to install the assemble the leg in neutral or does it have to be forward gear both on the leg and on the boat?

Just line up the shift foot while sliding it in, doesn't matter if it's in gear or not.

Make sure you don't miss the water tube on reassembly. Yep, I did that. Once. ;)
